    [GUIDE] How to rush a base

    I find rushing a much more fun and challenging way to play the game than capping at each level. But, unlike capping, there are many ways to go wrong. Most new players start off rushing their base the bad way, leaving them with a sour taste with rushing.

    Before the guide on what to do and what not to do, you should first determine whether or not you should rush your base at all, since upgrades are permanent. But considering that a casual player wouldn't usually be in the Clash of Clans subreddit, much less reading a guide, I can safely assume that you have some experience playing the game, are an active player, and can adapt to the interesting situation you are about to put your base in.

    Pros and cons of rushing a base:

    1. You get a very powerful army, very quickly, so you can donate to your clan members and be a huge help in clan wars.
    2. Your upgrade path has more freedom since the town hall upgrade wall is much farther up.
    3. You will completely max out faster than capping, particularly if you are used to sitting with only 2 builders down, only upgrading heroes since everything else is maxed. The more powerful attacks will let you get more magic items from Clan War Leagues to further speed up the upgrade process.
    4. Your defenses, heroes, and most of your troops will fall behind until you start to fix the rush.
    5. Your base will look terrible because of the inconsistency of levels.

    Each of the higher town hall levels unlocks a different perk, so pick one to rush to. I don't consider level 8 and below to be "rushing", since even the most rushed TH8 will take a couple of months to recover. Obviously the higher the town hall, the longer the recovery. At Town Hall 9 you can get a head start on the 30 queen levels. at Town Hall 10 you can use siege machines in battle. At Town Hall 11 you get a head start on warden levels. At Town Hall 12 you can produce and donate siege machines yourself. Town Hall 13 doesn't have much incentive to rush to, other than the siege barracks and, well, it's the highest level.

    If you were capping your base before, you really only had one rule, which was to not rush your Town Hall (and also to get 5 builders before wasting gems). Rushing has many different rules to follow.

    General rules for base rushing, with the consideration of still doing clan war leagues for magic items:

    1. Try to get 5 builders or even 6. This applies to capping bases as well so this should be a no-brainer. I got my 5th builder entirely FTP about a month into playing by trophy pushing to Champion as a TH7. It's narrowly possible, even for less skilled attackers such as me, as long as you're fine with pressing the "Next" button for hours on end.
    2. Defenses are the last priority. Just dump all of your gold into the walls. You should use that builder time on your army and storages. Once you get to the town hall level you intend to stop at, do not build the new defenses right away since that will dramatically increase your war weight.
    3. Pick one army type and upgrade nothing else in the laboratory until it is maxed out. In my opinion it is better to only have one army that is super strong, rather than a bunch of different, weaker armies. Try to pick one that can also work for farming as well, such as miners.
    4. If you intend to do clan wars, keep your heroes upgrading as much as possible, in particular the queen and/or warden, because most war attacks depend heavily on these two heroes.
    5. You will still be spending lots of time waiting. However, instead of waiting for the next Town Hall upgrade, you'll be waiting for when you can use a new attack strategy.
